Actor Jim Carrey will be reprising his role as the charismatic Dr. Robotnik in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, which is due out this winter.
That’s according to report on Variety, who have the exclusive scoop that the Golden Globe Award-winning actor will be returning to for the Blue Blur’s third cinematic outing. Carrey’s role in the movie was put into question for a number of reasons, including the fact Carrey had hinted at plans to retire from acting.
HIs character also appeared to have met his maker in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, although his demise wasn’t ever set in stone, as evidenced by a post-credits scene.

Robotnik appeared as the main antagonist in both Sonic films, although in the second movie he also teamed up with Knuckles. At the end of the first film he was banished to the Mushroom Planet, during which time Robotnik adopted his familiar video game appearance, right down to the bald head and over-sized moustache.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 races into cinemas on December 20, 2024.
