Sony Details Power Save Mode For Latest PS5 System Update Beta

Sony Interactive Entertainment has detailed its new Power Save Mode that is rolling out as part of the latest PS5 system update beta, which forms part of its environmental initiative, Roads to Zero.

Power Save Mode is able to reduce the performance of PS5 games in order to conserve power, providing it is supported by the new feature. In addition, Sony revealed that you won’t be able to use VR when in Power Save mode.

While this feature won’t be available during the beta phase, once it officially launches, supported PS5 games will scale back performance and will allow your PS5 to reduce its power consumption when the feature is enabled, optionally by gamers/ If not enabled, or if games do not support the feature, the performance will not be scaled back and power consumption will not be reduced.

As previously reported, the latest PS5 system update beta will also introduce the ability to pair DualSense controllers to multiple devices simultaneously. Sony started rolling out the beta yesterday and is available to selected users who received an email from the format holder.

The PS5 was released in November 2020 during the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, and promptly sold out a retailers worldwide. Restocks were few and far between, resulting in scalpers bulk buying and reselling consoles online at exorbitant prices; these issues wouldn’t ease up until about 18 months after launch.

Chatter about Sony’s next-generation console has been ongoing for months now, although nothing official has been confirmed. Mark Cerny, the lead system architect on the PS5, recently indicated that the new system is still years off at this point.
