Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a trademark in Japan for the mysterious Soho Engine, following on previous filings in Europe, Australia, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and Switzerland.
The filing was made on April 21, although that’s about all there is to go on at this point.
Sony hasn’t announced anything regarding the Soho Engine at this point, although the name itself has ties to the company, as it originally had a team based in Soho who worked on The Getaway. The team was close in 2002, however, and later became part of SCEE Camden, which itself was later assimilated into Studio Liverpool.
Sony’s Liverpool studio was best known for its work on the WipEout and F1 franchises during this time, although sadly the team ended up closing its doors for good in August 2012.

According to PlayStation boss Jim Ryan, the company is busy securing PS5 exclusives, so perhaps the Soho Engine will be powering one of these new titles. We’ll just have to wait and see.
