Sony files trademark for ‘The Player,’ but what is it?

Sony has secured a new trademark filing (via GameSpot) with the United States Patent & Trademark Office for an item called The Player.

While it is unknown exactly what The Player is, the filing is registered to Sony Pictures Television, and also pertains to video games in some capacity.

The trademark is linked to two goods/services, the first being "downloadable electronic game software; video game software," and the second pertaining to "entertainment services in the nature of a dramatic television series."

Sony filed the trademark on May 18, just under a month before the company’s annual E3 press conference in Los Angeles. Hopefully we’ll hear more information about The Player then, so stay tuned to PSU for more details.

In the meantime, feel free to speculate in the comments section below!
