Sony is hiring for a brand new position, the Head of Mobile, who will be responsible for bringing PlayStation IP to phones and other similar devices.
The posting reads as follows “Do you want to lead the development and strategy of mobile gaming and help shape the future of gaming for a world-class studio? As Head of Mobile, you will own and develop the mobile games strategy for PlayStation Studios and help build a foundation for future growth opportunities.”
The listing then goes on to say that the individual will be “responsible for building and scaling a team of mobile leaders and will serve as the Head of this new business unit within PlayStation Studios”. The position will also have “a focus on successfully adapting PlayStation’s most popular franchises for mobile.
The person in this role will manage games already in development for mobile and help to build PlayStation Studios’ capabilities for live updates within the mobile market.
The news of Sony shifting into the mobile market isn’t too surprising as some of the biggest games on the platform are based on console IP. It is also a huge moneymaker for companies with Activision Blizzard recently announcing its plans to bring all of its IP to mobile in some form.
But, what IP do you think would easily transition to mobile and what are your thoughts on Sony specifically hiring for a role within PlayStation Studios, focused on the platform?
All of this comes as a report claims internal development at Sony has shifted to focus on big AAA games with indie games getting sidelined.
