Sony has responded to claims that its PS5 marketing campaign is lagging behind competitor Microsoft, suggesting it’s too early to judge its efforts.
PS5 Marketing Campaign
Microsoft has been pretty busy as of late in regards to Xbox Series X, and only last week held an event to showcase a number of third-party titles. Furthermore, it will unveil first-party footage at a later event, while the console’s actual design was showcased months ago.
In comparison, Sony hasn’t showcased the design of its next-generation system yet, but we have seen the DualSense controller and had a detailed breakdown of the PS5 technical specifications.
However, speaking during a Q&A investor session, an analyst presented the following to Sony:
Sony’s next generation game console marketing compared to Microsoft’s software line-up introduction is a bit inferior—some people say it’s lagging—so towards the launch of PS5, do you think that you have a passing grade and if it is a passing grade, what is going well?
In response, a representative for Sony added:
Is it a passing grade or not?” Well, on that point, I think results will be everything, so after the launch it will become clear, and so we are going to make our upmost effort. So PS5, we have to think strategically right now, therefore unfortunately I cannot really make a comment.
Sony confirmed overnight that the PS5 release is still targeting holiday 2020 despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
