Final Fantasy XVI Producer Naoki Yoshida has said that Square Enix are confident the game’s release date won’t be delayed. To be more precise, he said that “unless a meteor falls on Japan, there will be no delay.”
Yoshida-san acknowledged that while Final Fantasy games are no stranger to being delayed at the last minute, there doesn’t seem to be any reason why Final Fantasy XVI won’t hit its launch on June 22, 2023. Presumably, he was referring to Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy XV in regards to previous delays, which were both pushed back close to their intended release dates.
Final Fantasy XVI is scheduled for release on PS5 on June 22, 2023. Recently, the game’s director admitted that he didn’t want the game to be an open-world title when taken the reins on the project, and back in January Square Enix’s Japanese armed kicked off in-store marketing for the game.
Yoshi-P also recently said that Final Fantasy XVI is true hardware showcase for Sony’s current-generation console, which makes sense considering how impressive it’s looking months ahead of release.
