Starfield Update 1.16.242 Patch Notes Reveal Auto-Save Crash Fix, Stability Improvements & More

Bethesda has rolled out a new update for Starfield today, and it mainly focuses on ironing out some troublesome crashes with the sci-fi outing including removing a bug that would see the game crash during auto-save. Other crashes have also been ironed out including one that could occur when viewing Creations, while gameplay fixes including addressing an issue where Muria would consume ammo. The frequency that the Colony War Action Heroes appear has also been increased. You can read the full Starfield update 1.16.242 patch notes below.

The PS5 version of Starfield was released in April 2026 but was plagued by numerous issues at launch, with Bethesda first releasing a patch for the PS5 Pro edition of the sci-fi epic before addressing more widespread niggles on the regular PS5. You can read our full Starfield review here.

  • Fixed a crash that could occur when viewing Creations.
  • Resolved a crash that could sometimes occur when making an autosave.
  • Resolved a crash that could occur when Creations contained legacy data.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when removing certain types of items in Outpost mode.
  • General crash and stability fixes.

GAMEPLAY

  • Addressed an issue that caused Muria to consume ammo.
  • Adjusted Plasma Cutter to prevent some unintended legendary effects from appearing.
  • Addressed an issue that allowed Mineral Farms to appear on Earth.
  • Increased the frequency that Colony War Action Heroes appear.

QUESTS

  • Into the Void: Addressed an issue that could prevent the quest from starting as intended.
  • Lone Wolf: Fixed an issue that could prevent the quest from resolving when landing at Neon with Dax.

UI

  • Updated the message that is presented when save game space is full.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause some crafting mods to display incorrectly in the workbench UI.
  • Resolved an issue that could cause the EULA to display incorrectly.
