Take-Two Boss Claims Mid-Cycle Hardware Updates ‘Aren’t All That Meaningful’

Speaking during an interview with IGN, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, has made it clear he’s not all that enthusiastic about mid-cycle hardware updates, claiming they ‘aren’t all that meaningful.’

Chatting ahead of the publisher’s Q1 earnings call, the executive said that the need for upgrade hardware “all depends on what that mid-generation upgrade would look like. Generally speaking, the mid-generation upgrades haven’t really changed much,” he said, before adding that they “aren’t all that meaningful.”

Sony first dabbled in mid-cycle hardware upgrades back in 2016 with the release of the PS4 Pro, a more powerful version of the base hardware released back in 2013. Sure enough, there’s already rumours about a PS5 Pro being in development, which is reportedly known as Project Trinity and is set to launch in 2024.

Take-Two announced during its latest earnings call that Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5 have reached new shipment milestones, and also heavily indicated that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch between April 2024 and March 2025.
