A report on Bloomberg has revealed that Cloud Chamber, the studio behind the new BioShock game, has seen around 30% of its staff laid off, with BioShock 4 suffering yet more delays as a result.
The site had previously revealed earlier this week that an undisclosed number of staff had lost their jobs at Cloud Chamber, but it’s now emerged that amount has totalled about 80 individuals. Rod Fergusson, the former Diablo series general manager at Blizzard, has taken over leadership responsibilities at Cloud Chamber.
Prior to that, it was claimed that the new BioShock game had failed an internal development review, and as a result Take-Two had decided to reshuffle Cloud Chamber leadership.
BioShock 4 was originally slated to appear in late 2026/early 2027, but as a result of the layoffs the project has now been pushed back. There’s currently no word as to when the game will see the light of day, although earlier this month Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick promised that the new BioShock would come out eventually.

David Ismailer, President of 2K, had the following to say in an email sent to staff:
While we’re excited about the foundational gameplay elements of the project, we’ve made the decision with studio leadership to rework certain aspects that are core to a BioShock game, and in doing so are reducing the size of the development team to focus on this work and give the game more time in development.
At this point the new BioShock game has been in development in some form or another for a decade, and according to a previous report, had seen multiple revisions, the most recent of which came in the summer of 2022.
