Cloud Chamber‘s upcoming BioShock 4 has reportedly failed its internal development review, resulting in publisher Take-Two replacing the project’s leadership team.
Kelley Gilmore, studio head at Cloud Chamber, has now departed and Hogarth de la Planete (creative director) has shifted to a publishing position. Planet had previously worked on the original BioShock game in numerous roles including level design, art and programming.

Bloomberg claims the narrative for the new BioShock was highlighted as “an area that was particularly in need of improvements” during a recent review by 2K Games executives, and is set to be overhauled. Furthermore, a BioShock remake was also reportedly cancelled earlier this year by 2K bigwigs.
2K commented:
We are working hard to set BioShock up for the best possible future. Right now, we have a good game, but we are committed to delivering a great one. We are working closely with leadership at the studio to define this path.
The new BioShock game has been in development for quite a few years at this point, and while nothing official has been revealed about the project, we’ve heard various rumours about its direction and story.
Back in May 2023, it was reported that BioShock 4 had been in development hell resulting in the game being rebooted four times, the most recent allegedly being in Summer 2022. Prior to that, it was claimed that BioShock 4 would be set in Antartica, with an open-world for players to explore featuring multiple endings.
In July last year, Cloud Chamber revealed that it was ‘ramping up‘ for the new BioShock game with more than 30 new jobs opening up at the developer.
