Take-Two Interactive announced a massive layoff last month, which itself came two short months after chief executive officer Strauss Zelnick claimed that there were “no plans” to enact mass layoffs during a restructuring of the company.
Now, as part of the layoff announced this past April, the Grand Theft Auto publisher will reportedly also be shuttering two studios, OlliOlli World developer Roll7, and Kerbal Space Program 2 developer Intercept Games.
This coming from a new Bloomberg report, who first reported the layoff when it hit mid-April. These studios also both belonged under Take-Two’s publisher Private Division, which has also said to have lost people outside these studios as part of the layoff.
While these were technically layoffs we were already told about, it’s incredibly sad to see that this cut has resulted in the shuttering of two incredibly talented teams.
In the same year, Roll7 released not just one, but two BAFTA nominated games, one of which won their BAFTA category in Rollerdrome while OlliOlli World took home a DICE Award that year.
Roll7 was also a storied studio for PlayStation fans, as the original OlliOlli games were PS Vita classics. That this is how Roll7 meets its end just piles on how sad it is to hear of the studio being shuttered.
Hopefully those impacted by layoffs at Roll7 and Intercept are able to land on their feet soon.
