The Callisto Protocol had plenty of promise when it was first being shown off, with Glen Schofield behind what to many looked to be a spiritual successor to Dead Space, people got excited.
When it finally launched in December of 2022, it didn’t exactly hit the mark the development team at Striking Distance Studios would have wanted, and the same goes for the publisher Krafton, who later admitted the game did not hit its expectations in sales.
Now unfortunately Striking Distance Studios has been hit with layoffs, and 32 former members of Striking Distance are now looking for work.
“Striking Distance Studios and Krafton have implemented strategic changes that realign the studio’s priorities to better position its current and future projects for success. Unfortunately, these changes have impacted 32 employees.” said Krafton in a statement sent to IGN.
“Honoring the invaluable contributions of each departing team member with material support in the form of outplacement services and meaningful severance packages is our top priority during this difficult moment.”
Krafton originally believed The Callisto Protocol would sell more than 5 million copies, and later adjusted that goal to only 2 million, while still not entirely believing it could hit that mark.
As per the last time we heard anything about sales for The Callisto Protocol, it was unable to recoup its development costs.
