Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has said that a demo for The Last of Us Part 2 is not an option, despite the fact the game has been delayed indefinitely. The news comes after Druckmann said no decision has been made in regards to a possible early digital release of the highly anticipated sequel.
The Last Of Us Part 2 Demo Not Happening
Speaking on the PlayStation Blogcast, Druckmann acknowledged the demand for a demo among fans, bu said it’s not ultimately feasible for Naughty Dog. He noted that there’s a big difference between a preview event for press and having the public play a demo.

He added that releasing a demo in an acceptable state is “a massive amount of work that we don’t want to put our team through.”
Here’s what Druckmann had to say on an early digital release:
We’re right now looking at all sorts of different options. What’s the best way to get it to all our fans as soon as possible? That’s going to take time for things to shift and to figure things out and also see where the world’s at: things are changing from day-to-day.
The Last of Us Part 2 was originally pencilled in for a May 29 release prior to being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Last of Us: Part 2 takes place five years after the events of the original game, with players stepping into the role of Ellie, who is now 19 years old. Joel is also coming back for the sequel, and Naughty Dog says he will have a ‘major part‘ in the game.
The Sony-owned developer is also utilising a new animation system known as Motion Matching, which sounds like it may become an industry standard going forward.
