Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 demo for PlayStation 4 contains all manner of hidden nuggets for players to discover—that freaky ghost girl certainly gave us the chills—but did you know it also features a cool throwback to Resident Evil: Director’s Cut?
Yep, eagle-eyed gamers on NeoGAF have unearthed a particularly curious easter egg during one of the many loading screens. Specifically, a set of seemingly arbitrary numbers actually refers to the product code for the North American release of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut back in 1997.
This game also featured a playable demo of Resident Evil 2, which at the time of Director’s Cut’s release was about six months away from launching on PlayStation. Is Capcom hinting at something to do with the Resi 2 remake here, or is this just a neat little throwback to Resi’s illustrious past?
Resident Evil 7 biohazard is due out on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One on January 24, 2017. The game takes place on a remote plantation in rural America, and transports the franchise into a first-person perspective as gamers attempt to survive its malevolent inhabitants.
