DC Universe Online finally gets solid release date
Not content with divulging a heap of info pertaining to DC Universe Online’s voice talent at Comic-Con last week, developer Sony Online Entertainment has followed up with a real gem – a solid release date. Yep, you’ll finally be able to get your hands on the PS3 and PC super-hero outing from November 2, 2010. To be honest, we adopted a fairly pessimistic outlook here at PSU Towers as to whether or not the hotly anticipated MMO would see the light of day this year, but fortunately we’ve been proved wrong. Keep an eye on this one, folks; it’s going to be positively massive.
Street Fighter x Tekken is a competition, not collaboration, says Tekken creator
Now that’s fightin’ talk! Two of the most significant brawlers in videogame history going head-to-head in a battle of gameplay supremacy – has there ever been a more exciting time to be a Street Fighter or Tekken fan? We think not. We’re huge fans of each franchise here at PSU HQ, so we’ll be lapping up both versions of this titanic digital duel and are particularly intrigued to see which title comes up trumps from an aesthetical point of view; after all, both games are set to feature each other’s distinct visual style. More importantly, as this is a competition as Harada-san pointed out, which game will win the battle for your hard earned-cash? We’ve got two years to wait sadly, but it’ll be worth it.
See Kratos in action against King Midas in Ghost of Sparta video
PSP may be under performing in the West, but Ready at Dawn’s upcoming God of War: Ghost of Sparta is sure to sway punters in to investing in Sony’s beloved black slab. The company was kind enough to treat fans to a brand new video of the game this week, featuring badass bald anti-hero Kratos pummelling King Midas in to submission. Considering this is on a handheld, we came away mighty impressed – it’s looking bloody fantastic. Check it out below.
Zipper explains SOCOM 4 delay
We won’t pretend we’re not gutted about SOCOM 4 being shoved in to 2011, but at least Zipper was kind enough to offer fans a legitimate explanation. After all, we’ve lost count of the times numerous titles have been delayed without so much as a quick word from the devs as to the reason(s) behind the decision. Still, look on the bright side; we get the ‘best and most immersive SOCOM’ experience to date, and the PS3 further strengthens its 2011 line-up with another triple-A release. Fortunately, the remainder of 2010 is still looking pretty meaty, with the likes of LittleBigPlanet 2, PlayStation Move, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Call of Duty: Black Ops offering a diverse and healthy mish-mash of first and third party efforts.
Worldwide PS3 sales stand at 38.1 million
First up, congratulations to Sony for shifting 38.1 million PS3’s worldwide since its inception in 2006. However, this milestone is something of a double winner for Sony gamers, for this latest sales figure puts the company’s black box approximately 3.6 million units shy of matching Xbox 360’s global user base. Not bad considering Microsoft launched its machine a full year ahead of Sony’s next-gen effort. Indeed, while outselling the Wii this generation is pretty much as likely as England winning the next World Cup, the notion that PS3 may end up overtaking its leading competitor in global unit sales isn’t as far fetched as originally thought. Still, with the big M now waging a price war with its sleek new 360 model and effectively playing Sony at its own game, it certainly won’t be a walk in the park. All eyes now turn to the next phase of the hardware battle – specifically the arrival of PlayStation Move and Kinect – to see which platform manages to pull in the most punters as both companies attempt to muscle in on the wand-waggling, motion-sensing shenanigans that has seen grannies and soccer mum’s around the world flock to the Wii like bees to honey.
Ubisoft looking at 3D for ‘most of our upcoming triple-A titles’
3D still pretty much divides a lot of gamers and probably will for quite some time to come. Still, the thought of sneaking through Assassin’s Creed or blasting our way through the latest Ghost Recon in the third dimension has certainly piqued our curiosity, and could make for quite the compelling 3D experience. While nothing has been confirmed as of yet regarding which games may use the technology – or indeed, whether any will fullstop – the fact the company mentioned ‘most Triple-A titles’ blatantly points to the likes of the aforementioned Creed, Recon as well as other obvious contenders such as Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia taking advantage of the feature. Colour us cautiously optimistic.
Insomniac to reveal new PlayStation 3 project between now and PAX
We’ll keep this short and sweet. Resistance 3, boys, make it happen. We’ve had teasing billboards, surveys and retail listings, now it’s about time we saw some hard proof that the battle against the Chimera hasn’t yet reached its conclusion. GamesCom reveal anyone? We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed.
