In a continuing dispute over patent infringements pertaining to Sony’s Blu-ray Disc Player and other components, South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. appears to have gained the upper-hand today after thousands of PS3 consoles were held up at a Dutch port.
Sony and the Korean manufacturer have been in dispute with each other over a series of alleged patent infringements, with both companies trying to prevent the sale and distribution of the others’ products. While LG filed a complaint recently with the International Trade Commission regarding Blu-Ray data, Sony also claims that components used in some of LG’s mobile phones infringe on its patents.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the Dutch Court has ruled a 10-day import ban on Sony while it investigates further, which affects the distribution of PS3s across Europe. Sony has appealed and is seeking to get the ban overturned as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the lawsuits look set to continue for some time.
