Ubisoft Confirms Assassin’s Creed Shadows Features A Canon Mode That Allows For A ‘Choice-Free Narrative’

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Game Director, Johnathan Dumont, has revealed during a Q&A on Reddit that the game will include a canon mode that allows players to experience the game with a choice-free narrative.

In addition, the team confirmed that there will be a single canon ending to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, although there will be many unique paths for you to take to get to the conclusion.

We have added a mode in the game called canon mode that allows a choice-free narrative. You will still be able to switch characters in open in this mode. The story of Shadows culminates in a single, canon ending. That said there are many unique paths leading to this point, and in particular that will determine who is (and isn’t) at your side along the way.

Recently, Ubisoft confirmed that the latest chapter in the long-running historical adventure series will push Assassin’s Creed’s modern day story in a new direction. In addition, the company revealed that it is confident that it won’t have to delay Shadows again, having pushed it bakc from a November 2024 window due to concerns over its historical accuracy and lack of polish.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is pencilled in for a February 14, 2025 release on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
