You Can Play Wipeout In Your Web Browser Thanks To A Fan-Made Port

Wipeout is one of the most classic PlayStation games ever, and one that is absolutely imperative to any historical telling of the platforms rise.

However there’s yet to be a proper PS5 version of Wipeout, in fact there’s been little love given to the franchise from Sony in a long time.

That’s not the case with the series fans though, as thanks to a fan-made port, you can actually right now go play Wipeout in your web browser.

Thanks to the efforts of Dominic Szablewski, you can relive Wipeout on the original PlayStation with a couple of clicks, a web browser and a keyboard.

Szablewski’s web browser Wipeout didn’t come easily, as he details his efforts in a massive blog post, showing how he essentially had to rewrite the game and all the pains he went through to do it.

It’s not a perfect port, Szablewski admits that there are still bugs to iron out, and invites anyone who can to visit the Github page and offer their help, but it’s plenty of fun being able to jump into a race on your web browser in no time at all.

At the end of the day it’s a lot more than Sony is doing with the Wipeout IP in terms of games, as there have been rumblings Wipeout could be the next franchise Sony brings to other mediums.

Likely many of you readers are wondering why Sony hasn’t shut this project down, as it very well could. The answer to that is really unknown, though in Szablewski’s eyes, there are two options in front of Sony.

“If anyone at Sony is reading this, please consider that you have (in my opinion) two equally good options – either let it be, or shut this thing down and get a real remaster going. I’d love to help!”
