Uncharted 4 multiplayer unlikely to get open beta, says Naughty Dog

Naughty Dog’s Arne Meyer has said that there are currently ‘no plans’ to introduce an open multiplayer beta for the hotly anticipated Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

The multiplayer beta for the upcoming action-adventure sequel wrapped yesterday, and was made available to those who purchased October’s Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. However, according to Meyer, it seems that there won’t be another chance to hands-on with Uncharted 4’s online component prior to the game’s launch on March 18, 2016.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is the final game in the series to feature Nathan Drake, with Naughty Dog admitting it is difficult to imagine continuing the 21 million-selling franchise without him. While the studio hasn’t yet confirmed what title it is working on after Uncharted 4, the company has made it clear it has at least one more title to come out on PS4 during the current hardware cycle.

Rumors have long suggested the California-based developer is working on a sequel to The Last of Us, something which Sony itself has admitted it would very much like to see. However, nothing official has been confirmed at this point. Regardless of what’s next, Naughty Dog has made it clear that it’s free to do whatever it wants. Could we see a return of Jak & Daxter at some point? Anything is possible right now.

Uncharted 4 takes place a few years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and sees Nathan Drake coming out of retirement to pursue a legendary pirate’s treasure. The task sees our cocky fortune hunter on a globe-trotting journey that reunites him with long-time partner, Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan, and his brother Sam, who had been long thought dead. The game will offer dialogue choices during key moments of the narrative, which is a first for the series.
