UPDATE 1: A second source has confirmed to Gematsu that the delay reported by Gamnesia is real. Gematsu’s unnamed source also correctly leaked the September 30 release date before its announcement.
UPDATE 2: Gamnesia has now provided an image of the instructions given to GameStop employees for replacing the September 30 date on promotional standees with the new Final Fantasy XV release date of November 29, 2016. It seems that, with the addition of a sticker showing the new release date, GameStop can continue using existing displays.
UPDATE 3: The delay is all but confirmed. Kotaku has heard of the delay from "a separate GameStop source." Apparently, Square has "briefed some people at the corporate level," but most individual stores have yet to hear word of the delay. Kotaku also says they have seen "other marketing materials" that match what Gamnesia shared.
ORIGINAL STORY: It seems the hotly anticipated Final Fantasy XV will be suffering yet another delay, according to Gamnesia. Rumor has it that Final Fantasy XV will be delayed from its expected September 30 release date to November 29, 2016.
Gamenesia reports that a source within GameStop management has informed them of the delay and promotional materials with the new release date have already arrived at numerous GameStop outlets with instructions prohibiting them from displaying these promotional materials until after Sunday, August 14th. Square Enix is expected to make an official announcement of the delay at that time
This is considered rumor and should be taken as such until Square Enix either confirms or denies the delay. However, this source has correctly leaked a few things in the past, including the Star Wars Battlefront release date and the existence of a new 3DS model.
It’s been well over seven years since the announcement of Final Fantasy XV (previously known as Versus XIII), with numerous delays plaguing the troubled title. Fans were happy to learn that the game was finally given a release date at Square Enix’s Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV event in Los Angeles back in March, where they also announced a new animated CG movie Kingsglaive and Brotherhood:Final Fantasy XV, an animated web series.
