Battlefield 1 beta was the biggest in EA history with over 13 million players

Electronic Arts has announced that the recent Battlefield 1 beta was the most successful in the publishing giant’s history, attracting a whopping 13.2 million players.

Yes, that’s more than Star Wars Battlefront’s beta, which itself was none too shabby with over nine million gamers flocking to the science-fiction shooter. Still, the beta wasn’t all smooth sailing, as server issues popped up on more than one occasion.

Exciting Battlefield 1 beta rewarded with a ton of players

In celebration of the Battlefield 1 beta success, EA also released a boatload of stats, including a breakdown of the most popular character classes. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Assault class topped the list with 30 percent of players opting for some old-fashioned combat, while just 10% percent plumped for the Medic class.

Players obviously loved to get up close and personal in the beta, as EA confirmed that an eye-watering 28.9 million melee kills were executed during the play session. The Armored Train also notched an impressive 13 million kills.

Battlefield 1 release date set for fall 2016

The Battlefield 1 beta is now over but the full game is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 21, 2016. The game eschews the series’ modern trappings in favor of the gritty battlefields of World War I, where players will engage in brutal combat scenarios armed with bolt-action rifles, shotguns, mustard gas, pistols, and more, while also taking to the skies in biplanes or hopping into the belly of an armored tank.
