Electronic Arts appears to be adopting a Star Wars Battlefront 2 no Season Pass policy for the upcoming sci-fi shooter, with the publishing giant going down the same path as its previous efforts with Mass Effect Andromeda and Titanfall 2.

That’s at least according to Creative Director, Bernd Diemer, who told Mashable that “we don’t have a season pass,” before going on to say that the company is planning “something different” for the Star Wars sequel.

"I cannot talk about the specifics of this, but we have something different in mind that will allow you to play longer, be [more] invested in the game without having a fragmented community," he continued.

Diemer added that EA wants to avoid a similar situation with the original Star Wars Battlefront, which featured a DLC Season Pass. However, if you didn’t own the extra content you were unable to compete against players who did, thus making it more difficult to get into a match.

So we definitely want to avoid that. We don’t want to segment our community,” he said. "We decided on that, and it’s one of those difficult decisions because it has so many implications all around . When we looked at the way Battlefront had evolved over its lifetime, with the DLC and everything, we decided, ‘You know what? For this type of game, season passes are not the best thing. We need to [take it apart] and come up with something better."

EA confirmed the Star Wars Battlefront 2 release date over the weekend at the Star Wars Celebration event, with the game due out in November 2017 on PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
