AMD has ramped up its CPU production efforts in order to meet the holiday 2020 release for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X according to a new report. As reported by Tom’s Hardware, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su is keenly aware of the fact that these two next generation consoles both extensively use AMD components in their architecture, stating:
“We expect semi-custom revenue to increase in the second quarter and be heavily weighted towards the second-half of the year, as we ramp production to support the holiday launches of the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles.”
Back in March 2020, there was some doubt that both Microsoft and Sony would struggle to see their next generation console offerings in time for their proposed holiday 2020 release windows.

However at the very least, Su’s comments should provide some reassurance that the manufacturing engine behind the components in both PS5 and Xbox Series X, is doing all it can do ensure that both consoles meet their holiday 2020 release.
The news of AMD ramping up CPU production comes off the back of the rumor that the PlayStation 5 not only uses a range of RDNA 2 architecture features such as hardware ray-tracing, but also a selection of RDNA 3 features too.
At the very least, we would say that, as of right now, the holiday 2020 release for PlayStation 5 is still on.
