BioWare’s Jonathan Warner has confirmed that the developer is planning an Anthem beta for its highly anticipated science-fiction opus.
No further details were provided on the upcoming beta, although considering the fact the Anthem release date is set for fall 2018, we imagine something will be rolled out a few months prior to launch.
Anthem was announced during E3 2017 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One, and takes the form of an action-RPG set in a shared-world universe.
In many ways, the game has been compared to Destiny in the sense that gamer are able to team up in a massive open-world to complete missions, plus the fact it draws heavily on science-fiction elements.
Players control powerful warriors known as Freelancers, who are equipped with fully customisable exosuits known as Javelins. BioWare confirmed that Anthem will feature numerous classes to pick from, two of which have been shown already – the Ranger and the Colossus.
Anthem is powered by the Frostbite 3 engine and features story contributions by Drew Karpyshyn, one of the scribes from the Mass Effect franchise.
It’s clear that publisher Electronic Arts has major plans for Anthem as a possible franchise, with Patrick Soderlund, the publisher’s vice president, stating that the game will be supported with extensive post-launch content and even hinted at a 10-year journey for BioWare on the project.
The project has been a long time coming, with BioWare confirming the title has been in development for five years.
Stay tuned to PSU for more news on the Anthem beta as it becomes available.
