Assassin’s Creed Hexe Game Director Departs Ubisoft To Form New Studio

Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed Hexe has suffered yet another blow just weeks after the departure of Clint Hocking (Creative Director), with its game director Benoit Richer revealing in a post on LinkedIn that he’s left Ubisoft to form his own development studio.

Richer has worked on a number of major video games in the past, including Batman Arkham Origins (Game Director), and also worked on numeorus Rainbow Six titles as well as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. As previously reported, Assassin’s Creed Hexe suffered a blow back in February this year when Hocking departed the project, although at the time Ubisoft assured fans that the game was continuing “with a seasoned team.” Jean Guesdon took over the project following Hocking’s departure.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe is set to be the darkest entry in the long-running franchise to date, and takes place during towards the end of the Holy Roman Empire during the European Witch Trials. Players will reportedly take on the role of newcomer Elsa, and a recent report by Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming claims that the game recently overhauled the combat system and that it’s targeting a Holiday 2027 release window.

Henderson also revealed that Elsa was going to be schooled in the ways of the Assassins by Ezio Auditore about halfway through the game, although wasn’t sure if that particular segment was still in the game or not.

Ubisoft recently announced that its Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake, known as Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, is slated to launch for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on July 9, 2026.
