Battlefield 3 PS3 graphics under the spotlight

Responding to the recent outcry from some sections of the gaming community that Battlefield 3’s graphics on PlayStation 3 look inferior to the PC version, EA DICE has sought to put the record straight.

EA DICE has made no secret of the fact that the PC is the leading platform for Battlefield 3 and rival developer Sledgehammer Games hasn’t wasted any opportunity to point out that its shooter, Modern Warfare 3 runs at a silky smooth 60fps while Battlefield 3 will run at 30fps.

Nonetheless, despite EA DICE showing the majority of footage so far solely on PC, the developer claims that the graphics on PS3 will be similar to the PC version.

"Of course, there are practical limitations on the console versions with things like CPU, resolution, memory, bandwidth… things like that. But I’m not worried about the output of PS3 compared to PC. It’ll be very similar," said Executive producer Patrick Bach in an interview with PSM3.

From what we’ve seen of Battlefield 3 so far there does seem to be a slight difference between the graphical quality of the PS3 and PC versions, but nothing as dramatic as some people seem to think – and what do people expect anyway when high-end gaming rigs are far more capable of running better graphics than the PS3? Still, it would be good to see more gameplay footage of the PS3 version to really put minds at rest.

Do you even care if the graphics are a little less striking than the PS3 version? Or are you fuming at the drop in quality?
