Bungie apologizes for Destiny The Taken King mistake, new content can now be bought separately

Following on from the controversy surrounding Destiny’s new expansion ‘The Taken King’ and Bungie’s decision to offer content exclusively only to those who buy the Legendary Edition (the original game+expansions), the reaction of fans has caused the developer to change its plans.

Following a backlash of criticism from Destiny players – to a post made by The Taken King’s creative director, Luke Smith – Bungie has apologised. Furthermore, the developer has now revealed that the extra content, which consists of three emotes and three exotic items, will be sold separately as part of digital package for $20.

To reward long-term players, Bungie has also confirmed that players who have a level 30 character or above and have bought the two previous expansions (House of Wolves and The Dark Below) will get some extra goodies in the form of a sparrow, emblem and VIP shader. We presume these will be made available closer to the launch of The Taken King.

The Taken King launches on PS4 and Xbox One on September 15. An E3 trailer gave fans a glimpse of what to expect from the expansion.
