Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Dev Reveals Axed Multiplayer Feature

Infinity Ward lifted the wraps off the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer last week, revealing a boatload of content for those looking to take the upcoming first-person shooter online. However, one feature that won’t make the cut is something known as Buddy Boost, which existed in the game for a whole year before being axed.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer Buddy Boost Detailed

Speaking with Prima Games, Jeffrey Smith, Modern Warfare’s multiplayer map designer, revealed that Buddy Boost allowed players to help each other reach new areas across the map by – you’ve guessed it – boosting them up. However, it turns out this was a difficult feature to implement in an online setting.

[The Buddy Boost] was badass if it worked, but it’s really hard to get some random person to cooperate with you. You have to let somebody kind of climb up you and get you up and they would get up there. But if you’re the one sitting on the wall waiting in a really awkward squat position.

One of the main reasons for scrapping Buddy Boost is that it simply left players too vulnerable to attack by enemy players.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 25. While we’re on the subject of multiplayer, Infinity Ward recently addressed the controversy surrounding the lack of a mini-map, and admitted that while it’s a fan of battle royale it’s focussing on the core multiplayer experience for the time being.

For the first time the series’ history, Modern Warfare will feature full cross-platform play support, and Infinity Ward is ditching the Season Pass model in favour of free post-launch updates.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a full reboot of the popular sub-series, and as such takes place in a different universe to the previous Modern Warfare games. Despite this, some fan-favourite characters are returning, including Captain Price, now voiced by Barry Sloane.
