CD Projekt RED On Move To Boston For Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel: ‘This City Felt More Culturally Familiar To Europeans’

Speaking during an interview with GameFile.news, CD Projekt RED‘s Gabe Amatangelo has revealed why the developer opted to establish a new studio in Boston, USA to helm the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

According to the game director, CDPR needed to be located on the East Coast of North America in order to tap a talent pool there that wouldn’t want to move to Europe, with the time zones overlapping. While Carolina was also considered, Boston was chosen as Amatangelo said “this city, I think, just felt more culturally familiar to Europeans.”

Amatangelo revealed during an interview last June that he plans to direct the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, which as of October 2023 was in the ‘conceptual design level,’ according to CDPR’s Adam Badowski.

Last month, CDPR revealed that a number of veteran developers across the industry have joined up with the Project Orion team at Boston, including Dan Hernberg (former head of production at Amazon Games) and Ryan Barnard (ex-game director for Massive Entertainment).
