Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Hasn’t Been Ruled Out Yet

CD Projekt RED has touched on the possibility of a Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mode, stating the company isn’t completely ruling out online functionality for the Keanu Reeves-starring sci-fi title despite currently focusing on the single-player elements. The company previously suggested the game would be a solo epic in the vein of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which had no online features.

Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Could Happen Post-Launch

Speaking during an interview with Eurogamer, Pawel Sasko, the game’s lead quest designer, made it clear that if anything does happen regarding multiplayer for Cyberpunk 2077, it would definitely be post-launch. In other words, the game will be single-player only on release. Right now though, no decision has been made about featuring online in the game.

“We’re not really working on multiplayer, our sole focus is single-player”, said Sasko. “We’ll do that, then we’ll see. We’re not saying no [to multiplayer] but we’re not saying yes. If something does happen it will definitely be post-launch and that’s as much as I can say right now.”

“I mean we’re known for good stories, amazing characters, choices and consequences. So this is something for sure we’d be going with, if anything happened regarding that. We’d avoid anything that’s not that. If we do it, it’ll be our style.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to ship for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on April 16, 2020. As mentioned, actor Keanu Reeves will appear in the game as Johnny Silverhands, although he won’t be singing. The game will also feature multiple endings and there’s a chance it may also come to PS5 at some point down the line.

One of the areas that CD Projekt RED is making sure it handles carefully is the representation of transgender characters. The studio received some criticism recently, after an in-game drink ad depicted a sexualised trans character flanked by the slogan ‘Mix It Up.’
