Destiny 2 rumor points to classic patrol zones coming back

Destiny 2 may be reintroducing the classic patrol zones from the original shared-world shooter, according to files obtained from the PC version of Bungie’s shooter.

The files make specific mention to Destiny’s Old Russia, Dreadnaught, Venus, and Mars. To be more precise, lines for in-game dialogue include, “head to Old Russia, scour the Cosmodrome,” “Mars is just a stepping stone on humanity’s journey, come with us,” and finally, “I can’t imagine the horror you’ve seen on the Dreadnaught.”

Not only that, but further digging has revealed that these lines will be read by the heads of the three factions: Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, and New Monarchy.

All of these factions made a recent comeback in Destiny 2 via the new Faction Rallies, with Dead Orbit emerging victorious in the first event.

Players will no doubt be familiar with the likes of Old Russia and the Dreadnaught, as they featured heavily in the original Destiny as patrol zones and hosted numerous story missions too.

The Moon was also a key area in the game, though that doesn’t seem to have been mentioned in these leaked files.

It’s worth noting that leaks on the first batch of Destiny 2 DLC, reportedly titled Curse of Osiris, mentions a “journey through time and space.” As such, it has been speculated that Guardians may be heading back in time as a reason for revisiting these classic locations.

Nothing official has been confirmed by Bungie on returning locations or Curse of Osiris, so take this info with a pinch of salt until we hear otherwise.

Destiny 2 will be supported by multiple season in its first year on the market, which will add a wealth of new content. The first batch will see an event known as The Dawning, which adds a wintery makeover for the Tower among other fresh content.

Something that won’t be returning (at least not this year) is the Festival of the Lost, Destiny’s Halloween-based event.
