Electronic Arts announced last week that it was considering rebranding its FIFA series, and a new trademark application has now hinted that the venerable footie series could be renamed EA Sports FC.
The publishing giant filed multiple trademarks for that very name with the UK Intellectual Property Office on October 1, and followed this up with another filing at he European Union Intellectual Property Office three days later. Nothing has been confirmed yet of course, but it’s likely this could be FIFA’s new name.
Cam Weber, the EA Sports Group General Manager, said last week that the company would still maintain a number of key leagues, stadiums, teams, and athletes if it were to cut sever ties with FIFA.
At this point we’re still waiting to see what happens with FIFA going forward. The latest entry in the franchise, FIFA 22, is now available for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. You can read our full review here.
