While Baldur’s Gate III was by far the standout game of 2023, even it stood a chance at being overshadowed if 2022’s game of the year, Elden Ring, had its upcoming Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC release.
Of course that didn’t happen, and the latest reports provided by FromSoftware are that the DLC is progressing along “smoothly” and that it’s “going well” but we’ll still need to wait a little longer.
Which, according to a few leaked photos, could be as soon as February 2024. Images that appear to have been taken from a slideshow presentation detail an Elden Ring x Thrustmaster collaboration, showcasing Elden Ring themed Xbox controllers.
The controller is also meant to release in line with an Elden Ring Anniversary release, which could likely be a new disc for players to buy with both the full game and the expansion.
It even shows off a design for a Malenia controller and a Ranni controller, indicating the Elden Ring controller is due to arrive this coming February, while the other two controllers could arrive sometime in 2025 in sync with a “major keybeat or new game expansion” for Elden Ring.
That last bit is almost what’s most exciting, because it could mean that while Shadow Of The Erdtree will arrive soon and provide some answers, it sounds like there’s so much more it’ll be followed up with.
It also suggest that despite FromSoftware’s latest release being Armored Core VI: Fires Of Rubicon, the team is not done with Elden Ring by a long shot.
Not that there was any sign it would’ve been after the coming DLC, but it’s nice to see something that while unofficial nudges the mark closer to the side of FromSoftware expanding the world of Elden Ring for the foreseeable future.
