Ditching PS5 exclusivity with Final Fantasy VII Revelation was “inevitable,” game director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed during an interview with the latest issue of EDGE magazine.
As previously announced, Square Enix is releasing Final Fantasy VII Revelation across all major formats in Spring 2027, including PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. Hamaguchi-san explained that the multiformat shift is “an inevitable outcome of the changing environment surrounding today’s players,” noting how players “are no longer tied to a single piece of hardware” nowadays.
“I believe that what will be important in future triple-A game development is not how high-performance an environment we can use,” he added, “but rather how widely we can deliver the core of the same experience across different environments.”
Speaking with the Radio Times recently, Hamaguchi revealed that he did his best to push for a physical release of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and while it is getting a disc launch, players will still be required to download data in order to play the game. In addition, the game director also revealed that FFVII Revelation will include more playable segments for Zack, who will have his own combat style to boot. Finally, PS5 Pro owners will be able to enjoy the game in 4K resolution at 60 FPS.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is due out on April 8, 2026.
