Final Fantasy VII Revelation Hard Mode Will Be Unlocked From The Start, Says Director Naoki Hamaguchi

Naoki Hamaguchi, the director on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, has revealed during an interview with Hardcore Gamer that the game’s hard mode will be available from the start, like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Hamaguchi-san revealed that Hard Mode in FFVII Revelation “won’t function in the exact same way” as its previous incarnations, as the team has “reimagined the high-difficulty experience to align with the new game design.”

Hard Mode is selectable from the very start of this game. Therefore, players who want to tackle challenging battles and high-difficulty gameplay right from the beginning can enjoy that experience from their very first playthrough. This is because, unlike Remake and Rebirth, Revelation offers a wide variety of end-game content even after you’ve beaten the game. Rather than relying solely on the traditional flow of challenging Hard Mode after beating the game, we aimed to create a game where players can enjoy various new content and challenges even after completing the main story.

Speaking earlier this month with PCGamer, Hamaguchi revealed that FFVII Revelation will include more playable scenes with Zack Fair, a character who has already seen his role greatly expanded in the previous games. The game director also recently confirmed that FFVII Revelation will offer 4K/60 FPS on the PS5, and that the game can easily take around 100 hours to complete.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027 for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. You can read our latest hands-on impressions here.
