007 First Light Amazon Games Amazon MGM IO Interactive New James Bond Games News PS5

Future James Bond Games Are Likely To Be Published By Amazon Game Studios

Jeff Gattis, Amazon’s GM of Gaming, has revealed during an interview with Polygon, has suggested that the company will be handling publishing of any future entires in the James Bond video game franchise.

The most recent Bond outing, 007 First Light, was released last month and developed by IO Interactive, who also handled publishing duties. The game was announced in November 2020, and the following year it was revealed that Amazon had acquired MGM, and with it, the company’s portfolio of over 4,000 movies and 17,000 TV shows. It later revealed that Amazon MGM Studios had inked a deal with Bond owners Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to acquire “creative control” over the franchise.

“We did not [make First Light]. We do have a stake in it because we now own the IP, but that IP acquisition happened after the First Light IO deal was already done,” said Gattis. He added that while Amazon “didn’t have the full right to this First Light James Bond game,” future entries in the series will be “done by MGM and, theoretically, by Amazon Game Studios.”

This doesn’t mean IO Interactive can’t develop any future James Bond games; rather, it simply means it won’t be publishing Bond games like it did with 007 First Light. Instead, Amazon would publish them, as in theory it would still be possible for IO to secure a deal with Amazon to handle development duties for 007 First Light sequel.

007 First Light launched on May 27, 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and you can read our full review here. IO Interactive announced soon after that the game had sold 1.5 million copies in just 24 hours.
