Geralt Voice Actor Backs Choice To Use Ciri As The Witcher IV Protagonist: ‘I Can’t Wait To See What They’ve Done’

CD Projekt RED‘s decision to go with Ciri as the main protagonist for The Witcher IV has been backed by Doug Cockle, the voice actor behind the franchise’s previous main character Geralt of Rivia.

Speaking with IGN, Cockle revealed that he’s “excited” about what CD Project RED will do with the series now that Circi is the main focus.

I’m really excited. I think it’s a really good move. I mean, I always thought that continuing the Saga, but shifting to Ciri would be a really, really interesting move for all kinds of reasons, but mostly because of things that happen in the books, which I don’t want to give away because people, I want people to go read. So yeah, I think it’s really exciting. I can’t wait. I can’t wait to see what they’ve done.

Despite this, it’s still worth remembering that Geralt is still confirmed to appear in The Witcher IV; we just don’t know how much of a part he will play yet. Cockle himself also told IGN in the same interview that he doesn’t know the extent of Geralt’s role beyond his work in the reveal trailer.

Well, we know that Witcher 4 is going to focus on Ciri, so whatever role Geralt has in the game, it won’t be a main protagonist kind of thing. But beyond what we know from the trailer, I don’t know anything.

CDPR has also addressed the choice to have Ciri as the protagonist of the upcoming fantasy-RPG, stating that it was ‘the super right choice‘ to make. While we’re on the subject of Ciri, CDPR has recast the role for The Witcher IV by replacing original voice star Jo Wyatt with Ciara Berkeley.

The Witcher IV is currently in development for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S and is without a release date.
