Director Frederick E.O. Toye, who is known for his work on FX’s Shogun and Amazon’s The Boys, is set to direct the first two episodes in the highly anticipated God of War live-action television show set to premiere on Amazon.
As reported by Deadline, Frederick E.O. Toye joins show runner Ronald D. Moore of Battlestar Galactica fame. The show has already gone into pre-production with a two-season order from Amazon. It has also been confirmed that casting has begun, but it’s too early to say who is in the running to play Kratos and Atreus just yet.
It hasn’t been a smooth start for the television adaptation. The show was delayed once, when showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins, along with executive producers Hawk Otsby and Mark Fergus, left after Amazon and Sony chose a different creative direction.

With Frederick E.O. Toye, the show looks like it’s in good hands. No other directors for the remaining episodes have been announced, but the show is looking to have a set of star-studded writers:
- Matthew Graham (Electric Dreams and Spanish Princess)
- Stephanie Shannon (For All Mankind and Outlander)
- Narendra K. Shankar (The Expanse and For All Mankind)
- Joe Menosky (For All Mankind and Star Trek: Discovery)
- Marc D. Bernardin (The Continental and Star Trek: Picard)
- Tania Lotia (The Witcher and The Mighty Nein)
The show is set to go into full production in March of next year, with filming beginning in Vancouver, Canada. God of War will follow the game’s recent adventures through Norse Mythology. God of War is set for Amazon’s Prime Video and will be developed by PlayStation Productions and SCEA Santa Monica Studios.
