Not only that, Dreams supports the less creative too, as players can simply download the creations of others and play those instead should they so choose. There’s nothing quite like it on the market today.
- Who would like it – Those who are creative, enjoy building things and trying out new gaming experiences.
- Available on: PS4
Dying Light 2
- What is it – The endlessly brutal sequel to you guessed it, Dying Light, Dying Light 2 takes the same parkour infused first-person shooter combat that defined the original but this time mixes it with a much larger world and a real emphasis on player choice. With a massive range of different zombies to fight and a huge non-linear adventure to plough through, Dying Light 2 is a furiously satisfying zombie shooter that elevates the genre to new heights with its hyperkinetic action and choice focused adventure beats.
- Who would like it – Players who enjoyed Dying Light, zombie games, zombie movies and horror games.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
Elden Ring
- What is it – Easily one of the finest games of the current generation, Elden Ring takes the hardcore action RPG combat that so rigidly defined the likes of Dark Souls and Bloodborne and perfectly transplanted it into an evocative open-world setting. Marrying up an incredible world with superb environmental storytelling and pitch-perfect combat, Elden Ring is absolutely essential for anyone that even has a passing interest in epic, massive and challenging adventures. Make no mistake, Elden Ring should be your next gaming odyssey on PlayStation.

Ghostwire: Tokyo
- What is it – It’s certainly fair to say that there isn’t another game out there quite like Ghostwire: Tokyo. Taking place in a fog-filled version of Tokyo where the local population has seemingly disappeared without reason, Ghostwire: Tokyo has players piercing the veil of the supernatural as they unleash forbidden magic on a range of demonic foes in a bid to discover what has happened to the denizens of Tokyo in this intense first-person horror action adventure.
- Who would like it – Fans of horror and spooky games.
- Available on: PS5 only
God Of War: Ragnarok
- What is it – Standing proudly alongside Elden Ring as one of the very best games you can get on PS5 right now, God of War: Ragnarok is a simply incredible sequel that masterfully ties up the events of its 2018 predecessor in an action adventure that must be seen (and played) to be believed. A carefully iterative offering that beautifully maintains the essence of 2018’s Game of the Year while making meaningful improvements to augment its already stellar combat and progression systems, God of War: Ragnarok is a meaty and deeply emotional epic that effortlessly secures its place as one of the best games on PS5 and a sure-fire Game of the Year candidate.
- Who would like it – Fans of God of War, Norse mythology and action adventure games.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
Gotham Knights
- What is it – Coming from the same studio that brought us the underrated Batman: Arkham Origins, Gotham Knights is a third-person, action adventure that envisions a dark future where Batman has died and his mantle is being taken up by his four disciples, Nightwing, Red Hood, Robin and Batgirl respectively. Tasked with not only keeping crime under control in a city that looks set to explode without its eponymous protector but also to uncover the mystery behind Batman’s death, Gotham Knights is a sprawling, co-operative action adventure that neatly balances high octane superhero action with the sort of detective work that the Caped Crusader was known for early in his career.
- Who would like it – Fans of Batman, DC Comics and superhero games.
- Available on: PS5 only
Gran Turismo 7
- What is it – It’s certainly no exaggeration to say that whenever PlayStation Studios and developer Polyphony Digital release a new Gran Turismo on PlayStation hardware, it’s something of a proper event and Gran Turismo 7 is no different in that regard. Though Gran Turismo 7 certainly carries the baggage of some of the weaker elements from previous games, a steadfast return to the generous single-player campaign offerings of old, together with a significantly upgraded visual presentation and most importantly a deeply felt love for cars that bleeds through every aspect of the game all ensures that one single statement is true – Gran Turismo is back and is easily one of the best racers on the market.
- Who would like it – Fans of Gran Turismo and racing games.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
Horizon Forbidden West
- What is it – A stunning sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West is a sweeping open-world, post apocalyptic odyssey that intertwines innovative combat and stunning visuals to stellar effect. Depicting a world where machines have taken over the planet, the remaining human survivors have split into tribal factions and Mother Nature has begun to reclaim her domain, Horizon Forbidden West is a stunning adventure that will enrapture players for hours on end. Horizon Forbidden West not only furthers the narrative of one of PlayStation’s most recognisable icons, but also manages to reassure PlayStation gamers of the rude health of PlayStation Studios sterling reputation for creating stunning first-party, single-player adventures. In every way that it can be, Horizon Forbidden West is Horizon Zero Dawn 2.0 and while it could do with some more variety in its open-world activities, Guerrilla Games has nonetheless crafted a triumphant sequel that earns its place among the very best that PlayStation Studios has to offer.
- Who would like it – Fans of Horizon Zero Dawn, action adventures and open world games.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
Inscryption
- What is it – There are regular card games, deck builders and roguelikes and then there is Inscryption. A blissfully beguiling take on the deck building and roguelike genres, Inscryption takes on aspects of escape room design as players must acquire cards through deeply disturbing means (I’ll not spoil them here) and use them to progress through and around a spooky cabin as they seek their escape. One of the creepiest games ever made and not to mention a resoundingly clever deck building effort in its own right, Inscryption is one of the best games of the year that more people need to be talking about.
- Who would like it – Fans of card games, roguelike games, deck building games and psychological horror.
- Available on: PS4, PS5 (Buy it here digitally on PSN – so why not buy them some PSN credit?)
Isonzo
- What is it – Shifting the action from both the muddy trenches of the Western Front and the snow-dappled rural expanses of the Eastern Front to the blood-soaked peaks of The Great War’s arguably most sophisticated theatre of conflict, developers BlackMill Games and M2H have excelled themselves with Isonzo. A thoroughly thoughtful and visceral first-person shooter where tactics and strategy are valued equally to a quick trigger finger, Isonzo isn’t just the best entry in the WW1 Game Series to date, it also happens to be one of the best tactical, first-person multiplayer shooters full stop.
- Who would like it – Fans of first-person shooters and World War I history.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
It Takes Two
- What is it – From the same developers that conjured up the great Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons and much more recent (but no less brilliant) co-op effort A Way Out, It Takes Two is easily one of the best split screen games you can buy right now on any system. With each player cast as a squabbling parent that has been transformed into a diminutive child’s doll, It Takes Two riffs on Honey I Shrunk The Kids as it presents players with a series of unique and deeply fun challenges that have you facing off with a band of rebellious squirrels, a deeply sarcastic book that’s trying to help (but really isn’t) and much more besides. The absolute embodiment of great split-screen gaming, It Takes Two is simply sublime.
- Who would like it – Fans of co-op games, local multiplayer games and platform games.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
LEGO Bricktales
- What is it – LEGO Bricktales not only clearly shows that the LEGO property is more than capable of standing up on its own two block-feet without the aid of a fancy licence, but it also more importantly reminds us why LEGO is loved the world over in the first place. LEGO Bricktales is all about firing up the imagination to construct LEGO to solve challenges as you subconsciously grin with the sort of wide-eyed wonder that LEGO has always prided itself on inciting in builders both young and old. Quite simply, LEGO Bricktales is brain-teasing, warmly charming and purely distilled joy that everybody should play.
- Who would like it – Fans of LEGO, puzzle solving and LEGO videogames.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
- What is it – Encompassing the entirety of the LEGO Star Wars Saga to date, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga takes players onto an epic journey spanning Star Episodes one through nine as they relive moments from each movie as their favourite heroes and villains. Combining iconic Star Wars spectacle with LEGO’s charm, abundant humour and variety of game mechanics, not to mention hugely compelling multiplayer co-operative play, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a meaty, sprawling LEGO epic that players of all ages will be able to enjoy over the Holiday period and beyond.

- Available on: PS4, PS5
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
- What is it – Like the trailblazing Mount & Blade: Warband before it, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord offers a degree of freedom that few other games can match. A mixture of tactical wargaming and RPG elements set in a massive fantasy world, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord roundly excels because it lets players be whatever they want to be and rather than penalise those choices, instead makes players own those decisions and provide a peerless theatre for them to thrive. Though technically not perfect, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord invites players to weave their own tapestry of ambition and be whomever they like in their own Game of Thrones, letting them wage war, engage in diplomacy, fight in the arenas, trade illicit goods, be a town alderman and absolutely everything in between in one of the most ambitious PS5 games to date. If you’ll let it, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord II will become your new obsession. And you should.
- Who would like it – Fans of Mount & Blade: Warband, war games, historical conflicts and tactical RPG games.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
Need For Speed Unbound
- What is it – Headed up by legendary Burnout Paradise developer Criterion Games, Need for Speed Unbound marks the first new game in the series since Need for Speed: Heat released for the PS4 back in 2019. Taking a fresh look at street racing culture, Need for Speed Unbound is all about customising your ride, unlocking new cars and making your way up and through the street racing scene as you tear through a twilight city embossed with graffiti art and eye-opening style. If you know somebody who loves street racing culture and racing games, Need for Speed Unbound is an easy choice to keep them enthralled over the holiday period.
- Who would like it – Fans of Need for Speed games, street racing culture and racing games.
- Available on: PS5 only
OlliOlli World
- What is it – A vibrant two dimensional skateboarding effort, OlliOlli World has players flipping and tricking their way through the vivid and vibrant world of Radlandia, meeting colorful characters as they grind and air through a journey to discover the mystical skate gods on an all-encompassing quest for Gnarvana. A hugely fun and charming skateboarding game through and through, OlliOlli World is an easy recommendation to wannabe skateboarders of all ages and skill levels.
- Who would like it – Fans of skateboarding games, skateboarding and indie games.
- Available on: PS4 and PS5
Paradise Killer
- What is it – A beautiful abomination that almost breaks under the weight of its thick but ultimately compelling worldbuilding, Paradise Killer is a stupendous detective yarn that reimagines the genre in bright sun-kissed colours with a cast of truly bizarre characters all living in a world that feels like a microcosm of sci-fi storytelling for the last thirty years. Exceptionally constructed, boundlessly enjoyable and fiendishly stylish, Paradise Killer is the new favourite detective game for PlayStation sleuths the world over.
- Who would like it – Fans of detective games and indie games.
- Available on: PS4, PS5 (Buy it here digitally on PSN – so why not buy them some PSN credit?)
Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous
- What is it – A massive RPG that casts players as either the saviour of a dark fantasy world that is under invasion, or the catalyst of it, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous represents not only a significant improvement over its predecessor, but an enormous and sophisticated CRPG that players with a hankering for epic adventure and narratives will surely enjoy. Though it still isn’t quite as polished as it needs to be and is complicated enough that genre newcomers might struggle with its information packed menus, largely text driven dialogue and detailed mechanics, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is nonetheless a vastly epic, incredibly entertaining and meaty adventure that is deserving of your time.
- Who would like it – Fans of RPGs, massive adventures and epic stories.
- Available on: PS4
Road 96
- What is it – Putting players smack dab in the middle of a dictator state, Road 96 is a narratively driven road trip adventure about a group of entirely different characters attempting to escape the regime that has stripped them of their rights and has held them hostage. A non-linear narrative adventure, Road 96 deftly adjusts its story depending on the actions that you take. From thumbing down a truck and hitchhiking your way to freedom, to choosing to speak out directly against the regime (or not) Road 96 is a deeply emotional indie gem that really gets to the romantic heart of the road trip experience, all the while providing an insightful commentary about autocracy and freedom, Road 96 is a game that everybody should experience.
- Who would like it – Fans of indie games, road trips and non-linear storytelling.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
Sifu
- What is it – Essentially John Wick meets classic, 1970s Hong Kong martial arts movies, Sifu is a third-person fighting game that casts players as a vengeful martial arts student looking to avenge the murder of his family. With just himself against a seemingly endless stream of enemies, Sifu is a bone-breakingly satisfying, yet sophisticated brawler that recalls the most visceral moments of martial arts cinema, allowing the player to use all manner of brutal techniques and objects in the environment to get the job done. There is however, a neat twist to Sifu’s fistic pursuits. Rather than being presented with a game over screen when you die, the protagonist simply ages one year and is thrown back into the fight – the kicker here being that the older you get, the more techniques you can learn, but the less health you’ll have (‘dying’ at age 70 will present you with a game over screen, conversely). One of the most enjoyable and innovative fighting games of the year, Sifu is a must-have for any fans of fighting games or classic martial arts in general.
- Who would like it – Fans of fighting games and classic martial arts movies.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
Sonic Frontiers
- What is it – The first time that the Blue Blur has ever wandered (or sped) into open world game design, Sonic Frontiers is a hybrid effort that sees everyone’s favourite hedgehog not only racing around an open-world expanse, but also tearing through a variety of three dimensional and two dimensional engineered levels that place an emphasis on Sonic’s traditionally hi-octane platform design.
- Who would like it – Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog and platformer games.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
Stray
- What is it – Look, Stray is simply fantastic. Cast as a wayward feline who after being separated from their furry friends takes a tumble into a walled, cyberpunk city where androids have replaced humans, it’s certainly fair to say that Stray captures the imagination from the get-go. A gorgeous platform adventure with narrative and light puzzle elements generously sprinkled throughout, Stray not only presents an evocative and original odyssey for players embark on, but it also lets them do all manner of cat things such as meowing (it has dedicated button just for this), climbing on surfaces, interacting with other cats and more. Our not so humble feline friends have never looked (or played) this good in a videogame ever. Stray is essential.
- Who would like it – Fans of indie games, cyberpunk games and cats.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge
- What is it – Side-scrolling beat em’ up action is absolutely back thanks to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. Lovingly inspired by the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, Shredder’s Revenge is a superbly executed exercise in gaming simplicity, as players simply choose their turtle (or any of the other unlockable characters such as April O Neil, Splinter and more) and carve their way through a classic, side-scrolling brawler filled with gorgeous pixel-art, challenging enemies and super satisfying combat. Supporting up to six player co-operative play, if you’re looking to reignite those joyous, halcyon days of side-scrolling arcade classics, together with a weaponised hit of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles nostalgia, then you really can’t do any better than Shredder’s Revenge.
- Who would like it – Fans of side-scrolling fighting games, Final Fight, Streets of Rage, Double Dragon and, of course, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
The Callisto Protocol
- What is it – A survival horror shooter that comes from the same twisted imagination that brought us Dead Space all the way back in 2008, The Callisto Protocol is 300 years in the future and puts players in the boots of Jacob Lee, an unfortunate fella who finds himself locked in the Black Iron maximum security prison on the surface of Callisto, the second largest moon orbiting the gas giant Jupiter. Soon it doesn’t take long before everything heads south and Jacob’s fellow inmates begin morphing into terrifying monsters with a thing for tearing anything with a heartbeat apart and so it’s up to Jacob to fight his way out of the Black Iron prison all the while attempting to uncover the mystery behind the biophage breakout. Hyperviolent and not for the squeamish, The Callisto Protocol will give you nightmares for days.
- Who would like it – Fans of Dead Space, gore and survival horror shooters.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil In Me
- What is it – The fourth entry in The Dark Pictures Anthoology of horror games, The Devil In Me puts players in control of a group of documentary film makers that find themselves mysteriously invited to a modern-day replica of a serial killer’s home. Starring award-winning actress Jessie Buckley (Men, Chernobyl and Fargo), The Devil In Me continues the series penchant for jump scares, splattery violence and non-linear storytelling as players can tackle the game either in solo or co-operatively with friends (where it’s a lot more fun), unlocking different endings and attempting to save as many people from a grisly fate as possible.
- Who would like it – Fans of The Dark Pictures Anthology, horror games, horror films and co-op games.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
The Last of Us Part 1
- What is it – Given the massive success of The Last of Us Part 2 and the juggernaut hype engine that is behind the forthcoming The Last of Us television show, it makes sense on a few levels that PlayStation Studios would remake and re-release its first title in The Last of Us franchise. A PS5 exclusive remake with the power of that console in mind, The Last of Us Part 1 is a tremendously well-judged remake that ably seperates itself from 2014’s The Last of Us Remastered by offering massive upgraded visuals, accessibility options and other such changes that arguably make it the definitive version of one of the best games ever made. If you’re looking for a stirring, brutal, visceral and emotionally crushing survival horror adventure, The Last of Us Part 1 is absolutely up there for series veterans and new fans alike.
- Who would like it – Fans of The Last of Us, The Last of Us Part 2, third person combat games, great stories and apocalyptic narratives.
- Available on: PS5 Only
The Quarry
- What is it – A spiritual sequel of sorts to the well received horror title Until Dawn, The Quarry has players taking control of no less than nine(!) teenagers as they attempt to survive their final night at the titular Hackett’s Quarry summer camp. In addition to angry locals and a range of supernatural baddies, players will also have to navigate the relationships that exist between the various teens all the while The Quarry’s massively branching, non-linear narrative allows up to 186(!!) endings to be uncovered by eager players. Like Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology franchise? Then The Quarry is absolutely tailor made for you.
- Who would like it – Fans of The Dark Pictures Anthology, Until Dawn, horror games, horror films and co-op games.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- What is it – Fully diving into the gleeful madness of arguably one of the Borderlands franchise most famous characters, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands leverages the tabletop vibes of the Assault On Dragon Keep Borderlands 2 DLC to fashion a first-person looter shooter with surprising depth. Set within the confines of “Bunkers & Badasses”, a fantasy themed tabletop game that exists within the Borderlands universe (with the titular Tiny Tina as the self-appointed Dungeon Master, no less), Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands expands on the looter shooter mechanics of the Borderlands games by offering dynamic environments and a wide range of different subclasses for players to tinker with. Throw in a mountain of loot and new gear, coupled with a mammoth amount of quests and full support for local and online multiplayer (including crossplay) and it’s clear that Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands offers a tremendous RPG shooter offering that will last players through the holiday period and far beyond.
- Who would like it – Fans of the Borderlands games, looter shooters and first person shooters in general.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
Tunic
- What is it – Between the twee, yet stunning isometric visual presentation and the bushytailed, bouncy demeanour of its primary protagonist, it’s fair to say that’s somewhat impossible to not fall in love with Tunic. And like all the best games that initially hook you with that infectious warmth, Tunic’s excellence is far more than skin deep thanks in no small part how expertly it combines old fashioned Legend of Zelda and contemporary Dark Souls gameplay beats and mechanics to fashion one of the best PlayStation indie games of the year.
- Who would like it – Fans of indie games, the Legend of Zelda and challenging action adventures.
- Available on: PS4, PS5 (Buy it here digitally on PSN – so why not buy them some PSN credit?)
Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves Collection

Whether experiencing these stunning games for the first time or returning for another playthrough, emboldened by the technical facelift that the PlayStation 5 provides, Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves Collection brings together two absolute banner PlayStation exclusives into a delectable and unmissable package that serves as a timely reminder that Nathan Drake and company have been long missed.
- Who would like it – Fans of the Uncharted games, Uncharted movie, Tomb Raider games and action adventure games.
- Available on: PS5
Unpacking
- What is it – Unpacking is the perfect example of independent game design. The concept of Unpacking is simple, you must simply unpack the possessions of an individual into various rooms over the years of their life as they grow older and experience life – and there’s nothing like it. Unpacking is like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket as you gently watch the years roll away in front of you. Though a little short, the relatively brief experience that you’ll have with deconstructing the emotional narrative of characters that you’ll never see via its block fitting puzzles, cements the fact that Unpacking won’t quickly be forgotten and will be an experience that you’ll likely go back to time and again whenever you need a precious smidgen of soul affirmation. Unpacking is one of the most enjoyable and relaxing games that you’ll ever play.
- Who would like it – Fans of indie games and relaxing games.
- Available on: PS4, PS4 (Buy it here digitally on PSN – so why not buy them some PSN credit?)
WWE 2K22
- What is it – Though it’s hardly a tall hurdle to clear, WWE 2K22 is the best WWE 2K game since they started appending ‘2K’ to the title. Much more than that though, it’s the best wrestling game to come along in a long, long time and one which almost completely banishes everything that has been historically wrong with the franchise, while also managing to strike out in a bold direction for the series’ future. More than that though, WWE 2K22 packs in such a large roster and so many game modes that fans of both pro-wrestling and wrestling games alike will find much to enjoy in 2K’s latest WWE offering. Make no mistake, this is the best WWE 2K wrestling game in *years*.
- Who would like it – Fans of WWE, pro wrestling and WWE 2K games.
- Available on: PS4, PS5
