The biggest news to kick off the week was the reveal of the nominees for The Game Awards 2023, and while there were definitely many upsets for some fans, PlayStation fans don’t have much to complain about.
For one thing, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 led the way in nominations for PlayStation, with seven out of the total 13 nominations for PlayStation products, which also included the three adaptations from PlayStation Productions.
The ‘Best Adaptation’ category included HBO’s The Last Of Us, Twisted Metal and the Gran Turismo film, with the two other slots being filled by the Super Mario Bros. Movie and Castlevania: Nocturne.
Regarding the seven nods given to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, it is up for Game Of The Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Audio Design, Best Performance for Yuri Lowenthal’s Peter Parker, Innovation In Accessibility, and Best Action/Adventure Game.
Destiny 2 adds one nomination to the list with a controversial nomination for Best Community Support, shortly after Bungie laid off employees who helped earn that nomination.
Best VR/AR Game also included two nominations for PlayStation Studios teams with Horizon: Call Of The Mountain and Gran Turismo 7 both appearing in the category.
Altogether that makes for 13 nominations for games/film/tv shows published and produced by PlayStation, a strong year in any book.
Now of course the big question is how many of those nominations will turn into wins. If you want to see the full competition, you can check out a full list of this year’s nominees here.
