Konami has announced a Metal Gear Survive release date, confirming the action-adventure title will launch in North America on February 20, 2018 and in Europe on February 22.
Those of you who pre-order Metal Gear Survive will receive the Day 1 Survival Bonus Pack. This features a number of bonus items, such as four gold-plated weapons, two gestures, four metallic survival scarves, kabuki face paint, a Mother Base nameplate, and Boxman accessory.
Metal Gear Survive is the first title in the venerable stealth-action franchise to be made following the departure of Hideo Kojima.
The game takes place in an alternate timeline following the events of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes. Here, we find members of Big Boss’s army transported to a mysterious dimension through a wormhole, where they must defend themselves against zombie-like foes known as ‘creatures.’
Much like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Survive takes place in an open-world setting. Players can go solo or team up with three other gamers to take part in missions, which involve gathering resources and other supplies to build new weapons and establish a base to defend against the marauding undead.
Resource management and crafting will be paramount to your survival in the game, with Survive also tapping into the franchise’s strong pedigree for stealth and survival mechanics following the success of The Phantom Pain. Players can also partake in animal rearing and growing crops to further their efforts.
Metal Gear Survive was originally due for release in late 2017 before being pushed into next year earlier this summer.
Following its announcement at Gamescom 2016, Metal Gear Survive generated considerable negative feedback from fans, due to it eschewing many of the core mechanics and narrative themes of the franchise.
Kojima-san said during a panel at the Tokyo Game Show 2016 that the game had “nothing to do with [him]” and that it doesn’t fit his vision for the series.
