PS5 DualSense Users Reportedly Shouldn’t Wear A Mechanical Watch When Using The Controller

A thread on Reddit has come to our attention that advises users who have mechanical watches not to wear the device when using the PS5 DualSense controller. Apparently, Sony‘s new controller can magnetise your mechanical watch.

According to user Saguchi, the DualSense is able to emit strong magnetic fields ‘not only at the speaker level (which is to be expected) but also at the grips themselves.’ He points out that the biggest threats to mechanical watches are water, shocks and magnetism, so the latter is obviously a problem here.

The user speculates that the issues outlined above are likely down to the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), and that the ones tested out by the user are on par with ‘fully-fledged laptop speakers and can, I think, lead to magnetism.’

Other users in the same thread note that the DualSense is more magnetic than the DualShock 4, which is definitely something to think about.

We can’t actually verify these reports ourselves, but it’s definitely something those who own mechanical watches should take note of just in case.
