Resident Evil 6 rated again for PS4 and Xbox One, official announcement is surely imminent

Capcom’s Resident Evil 6 has been rated yet again for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, this time on the Australian Classification Board.

The new ‘multiplatform’ rating doesn’t explicitly mention Sony and Microsoft’s current-generation consoles, although there isn’t likely to be anything else on the cards for the 2012 action-horror sequel other than a PS4 and Xbox One re-release. That, and the fact it was rated in Korea a few weeks back, plus Capcom’s commitment to high-definition remasters of its back catalogue, pretty much confirms we’ll hear something official soon.

Resident Evil 6 was originally released on the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360, picking up mixed reviews in the process. Taking place a few years after Resident Evil 5, the game offers three distinct campaigns, each one featuring co-op play between two characters: Leon/Helena, Jake/Sherry, and Chris/Piers. Leon’s scenario is more aligned with the classic horror elements of previous titles (although some people would argue otherwise), Chris’s offering adheres more to the action-packed elements of the more recent entries, while Jake’s mission combines hand-to-hand brawling with third-person shooting, bringing something new into the mix.

Capcom may be keeping mum on a RE6 port at present, though 2016 is a massive year for the series as a whole, with Resident Evil celebrating 20 years on March 22. The Japanese software giant currently has a number of new projects in the pipeline, including Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster, the PS4-exclusive Resident Evil Umbrella Corps, and a full-blown remake of Resident Evil 2. While Resident Evil 7 has yet to be announced, it has been heavily rumored to be in the works for some time now, and next year would certainly be as good of a time as any to unveil the sequel. We may also see the series make the jump to virtual reality gaming on PlayStation VR later down the line.
