Capcom’s as-yet unannounced Resident Evil Zero Remake has reportedly been rebooted mid-development, according to insider Dusk Golem, and is now being lead by the team at Division 1.
Golem had previously stated back in May 2024 that both Resident Evil — CODE: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero Remake were in production, with Resident Evil: Veronica finally being announced at Summer Game Fest on June 5. Zero’s remake however has yet to be revealed, but Golem has long stated that it’s due to be released in 2028.
The insider had previously stated that the Resident Evil Zero Remake was being handled primarily by K2 & M-Two, who had previously helmed the Resident Evil 3 Remake and Resident Evil 4’s Separate Ways DLC. However, that now appears to have changed.
“It got rebooted mid-dev & Capcom Div 1 is currently leading it post reboot,” said Golem.
Resident Evil Zero was originally released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2002, and takes the form of a prequel set 24 hours before the events of the first Resident Evil. Here, we find S.T.A.R.S. Bravo investigating a series of mysterious deaths in the Arklay Mountains, only for their chopper to crash land in the forest, where they discover a wrecked military escort riddled with corpses. Players control medic Rebecca Chambers as she investigates a nearby train, teaming up with escaped convict, Billy Coen, as they uncover details on the origins of Umbrella within a training facility and more.
The game was noted for its use of partner zapping, allowing players to switch between Coen and Chambers at the press of a button; it also ditches the item boxes in favour of allowing players to drop items at will, juggling inventory management between both characters.
Resident Evil Zero Remake is reportedly set to launch in 2028.
