According to the LinkedIn profile for Sony Bend senior game writer Tom Dibble, the studio started development on its new open-world IP in September 2019.
Dibble’s profile reveals that he’s currently working “with writing partner, Laurel Williams, created mythology, world rules, characters, and complete story for a AAA open world title.”
Sony Bend has been making news quite a bit in the last few days, after a report on Bloomberg revealed that the studio’s plans to develop Days Gone 2 were shot down by Sony. The game was reportedly due to be directed by the same person who helmed the first game, with online co-op integration also part of the plan.

Some of the team were reportedly put to work on a new Uncharted game, although this didn’t sit well with some folk, and as such they instead moved on to work on a brand new IP.
Days Gone was originally released in April 2019 and you can read our review of the game here.
