Starfield is now available for the PS5, but the game’s launch hasn’t exactly gone smoothly, with numerous reports from fans about crashes and various other bugs. Things have got so bad that many owners are calling for refunds.
Over on Reddit, there’s a thread title “Base PS5 crashing getting out of hand, it’s unplayable” that has garnered heaps of comments from disgruntled Starfield owners. One player noted they have “tried all proposed fixes and saved uninstall and reinstall for last, now the game won’t even load, this is beyond ridiculous.” Meanwhile, another fan added, “I can’t even land on any planets or try to do anything other than sit my ship or game will crash.”O
Unfortunately it seems that these issues are not just restricted to the PS5, as PS5 Pro owners are also reporting similar sort of bugs with Starfield. While it has been suggested that owners disable the auto-save feature to remedy the problems, this doesn’t seem to have worked for everyone.
“Yeah I’ve shelved it,” another player wrote. “I’ve called their tech support line and left a message and submitted a ticket. I have done every single troubleshooting step and it’s the only game I own that hard freezes like this constantly. Feel seriously ripped off. I want to play it because I like what I actually did get to play but this is actually bs.”
Bethesda has yet to address these issues publicly, and while it did release a day one update for Starfield on PS5, it evidently hasn’t ironed out many of these issues. You can read our own verdict on the science-fiction RPG here.
Starfield was originally released for PC and Xbox Series X/S in September 2023.
The PS5 version of Starfield features all of the previously released updates for the game, plus various quality-of-life improvements including “clearer, more functional surface maps and the REV-87 land vehicle” to aid in planetary exploration. The DualSense is also fully supported via Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers allowing for a more immersive gameplay experience.
