The organisers behind Tokyo Game Show have announced that the show will not go ahead this year. The event was expected to take place this September, but has unfortunately been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in the absence of a physical Tokyo Game Show, a replacement online event has been confirmed with more details to come.

Tokyo Game Show joins other notable conventions such as E3 and Gamescom in being cancelled due to the coronavirus. It comes as no surprise given that these conventions attract hundreds of thousands of attendees. In regards to Tokyo Game Show, The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association issued the following statement:

Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on a global scale and the situation remains unpredictable in Japan as well, the organizer and the co-organizers have reached this decision after a long consideration to place the utmost priority on the health and safety of visitors, exhibitors and stakeholders. We ask for your kind understanding and cooperation.

Elsewhere, the COVID-19 pandemic is also impacting the development and release dates of upcoming games. You can keep track of those ever-changing release dates right here. We will continue to keep you updated with all the latest, as more information becomes available.
