Naughty Dog has teased that the ending to the hotly anticipated Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is likely to prove divisive among fans.
Speaking with IGN, Neil Druckmann, the game’s creative director, revealed that he’d rather folk argue about the conclusion to Nathan Drake’s final adventure than be indifferent about the conclusion.
"I think people will discuss the ending. If focus tests are anything to go by, there will be some arguments about the ending," said Druckmann. "I’m excited. Indifference would be the worst thing. I would rather have people hate it than be indifferent to it. We’ll see how they react."
He was also asked point blank if Nate kicks the bucket in Uncharted 4, to which Druckmann replied: "Do you really want me to tell you? You don’t really want me to tell you."
"What I found is you kind of have to ignore other people," he continued. "Any time you try to please something outside yourself, it can easily come off as false. Whenever we make something that’s honest to us that is the game we truly want to play, you know whether you succeed or not."
Uncharted 4 is due out exclusively on PlayStation 4 on May 10, 2016. The sequel reunites Drake with his long-lost brother, Sam, who was previously thought to have perished 15 years ago. Along with his mentor, Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan, the cocky fortune hunter sets out on a globe-trotting journey to hunt down a legendary pirate’s treasure.
Naughty Dog has implemented a number of new features for this latest adventure, including larger-scale environments, enhanced brawling and stealth mechanics, plus new multiplayer abilities such as AI buddies and mystical elements. Just don’t expect to see Donut Drake show up again.
The California-based studio has confirmed that this will be the studio’s final Uncharted game, although has said that it doesn’t mind another developer taking the reins provided it’s good enough. Naughty Dog also has at least one more PS4 title in the pipeline, fueling speculation it could be working on a follow-up to The Last of Us.
