Uncharted Movie Actor Praises Script: ‘One Of The Best I’ve Ever Read’

Speaking during an interview with IGN, Tom Holland, who is set to play Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted film, has heaped praise on the movie’s script, saying it’s ‘one of the best I’ve ever read.’

I read the newest draft of the script on the way over here and it’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read. It really, really jumps off the page.

I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don’t is that it’s an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven’t seen what’s going to happen in the film. And if you haven’t played the games, you’re going to enjoy the film because it’s information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I’m super excited to make that movie and it’s been a long time coming.

Holland also added that he’s confident Mark Wahlberg will “kill it as Sully’ and ‘it’s going to be a lot of fun.’

The Uncharted movie recently suffered another setback, with Travis Knight, the film’s sixth director, leaving the project. He follows David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, and Dan Tractenberg.

The production of the Uncharted movie has been sailing on choppy waters to say the least. Still, let’s just be glad that O. Russell’s vision didn’t come to pass, as that would have seen Wahlberg playing Drake as part of a family of Mafia-style treasure hunters. It sounded a bit naff, and it was clear he didn’t really seem interested in honoring the source material.

The Uncharted franchise remains one of Sony’s best-selling franchises to date, shipping over 41 million copies worldwide since its inception back in 2007 for the PlayStation 3.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune arrived for the console as one of its early must-have titles, and was followed by Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, which is considered among the best video games of that generation. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception arrived in 2011 for the PS3, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End turned up in 2016 for the PS4.

Sony Bend developed the prequel Uncharted: Golden Abyss for the PS Vita back in 2012, and the standalone expansion Uncharted: The Lost Legacy hit PS4 in summer 2017.
